Fossil Mammoth Ivory Nuts
Fossil mammoth ivory (FMI) is ivory from the ancient wooly mammoth that roamed the earth in ages past. Found today in the great north , we purchase FMI from Canada , Alaska and Siberia in tusk form.
Softer than bone and softer than pre-ban elephant ivory (PBE), this material renders a mellow tone to most instruments and is only recommended for instruments that sound too harsh with a bone or ivory nut and saddle. FMI can range in color from white to dark chocolate brown but the vast majority of it is the color of an almond colored light switch. While you can request a color preference when you order we cannot guarantee that we will have the color you want so please understand. We place a preference on cutting the densest FMI for your guitar parts because we know the acoustic properties are more important to you than the color. We recommend bone and FMI for overseas customers and PBE for US customers.
Blanks - Oversized on all dimensions to grant artisans the leeway needed to create the right part.
Pre-shaped Nuts - These parts have been shaped to save you time and effort. These require the minor finish work of filing, sanding and slotting.
